'Rock Band' Wii Invasion Dated for June 22

March 24, 2008

After months of leaving Wii owners in the dark, the triumvirate of MTV Games, Harmonix and EA have announced the Nintendo Wii version of Rock Band will invade stores on June 22.

Following the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions, the Wii bundle will come complete with the game, drums, microphone and a wireless guitar.

Unlike the previous versions, the standalone instruments for the Wii will be available day-and-date on June 22 with the bundle, meaning a full band with lead and bass guitar can be formed on the first day of release.

Also exclusive to the Wii version are 5 additional song in addition to the 63 songs ported from the Xbox 360 and PS3 version. The names of those 5 new songs have yet to be revealed.

The Wii Rock Band bundle will cost $169.99. Pricing is not yet available for the standalone instruments.

"The Wii's success among casual and core gamers of all ages makes it an ideal match for the cross-generational appeal of the music featured in Rock Band," says Bob Picunko, Vice President of Electronic Games and Interactive Products, MTV.

"The social interaction and addictive nature of the Rock Band experience is a perfect fit for the Wii and will undoubtedly be fun for the entire family," says Steve Singer, licensing VP from Nintendo.
